Lakers pull away for 93-67 win over Beaver Co.

McHenry, MD –K'Shawn Scott scored 23 of his game-high 29 points in the second half Monday night as Garrett College notched a 93-67 men's basketball victory over visiting Community College of Beaver County.

The Lakers, who held a 36-28 halftime advantage, used a 57-point second half to pull away from Beaver. GC (15-8) buried eight 3-pointers – four by Gavin Jackson – during the second-half onslaught.

"We're a streaky-shooting team. Sometimes we can score points in bunches," said GC head coach Matt McCullough of his squad's second-half shooting. "Everyone got hot all at once. We were able to put the ball in at a pretty good pace for a lot of the second half to help us put the game away."

The Titans (9-14) were still within 68-58 when Garrett broke the game open with a 20-7 run that include four treys from three different Lakers. Cory Harper and Jackson capped the streak with consecutive 3-pointers as GC built an 88-65 cushion.

McCullough said Scott made the most of his opportunities during his second-half scoring outburst.

"He was running the court well and his teammates were doing a good job finding him," said McCullough. "He was also setting good screens and then slipping out of those screens to get some easy shots going to the basket."

The Lakers, trailing 11-8, took the lead for good with an 11-2 surge. Antonio Adams, who had half of Garrett's first dozen points and finished the game with 19 points, hit a pair of free throws to give the Lakers a 12-11 lead. Jackson, who also had 19 points, contributed five points during  the run, which he finished with a 3-pointer that gave GC a 19-13 advantage.

Lamire Redman (14 points) rallied the Titans, hitting a trio of 3-pointers in just 87 seconds to bring Beaver within 26-24. Garrett, however, finished the half with a 10-4 run that featured six points from Carmello Myles (14 points).

Beaver pulled within 45-43 with 14:06 remaining on a layup by Damon Astorino (11 points). The Lakers regained control with seven straight points, including another Jackson trey, to stretch their lead back to 52-43.

Kameron Greil scored a team-high 19 points for Beaver County. Chauncey Cole was the fourth Titan in double figures with 10.
