McHenry, MD – K'Shawn Scott and Cory Harper each scored 14 points last Wednesday as unbeaten Garrett College (3-0) rolled to a 101-53 men's basketball victory over the visiting Waynesburg University junior varsity.
Nasir Coleman (seven assists, two steals), Keyonta Johnson (five rebounds, three assists), and Petar Kos each added 11 points for Garrett as five players hit double figures and 13 of the 14 Lakers found the scoring column.
"It was good to get some guys who hadn't played much, or at all, in the first two games some playing time," said GC head coach Matt McCullough. "I was happy to see them in live-game action after all the hard work they've put in during practice."
McCullough mentioned Harper as one player who took advantage of extended playing time.
"Cory came in and knocked down some shots, which we think he's really capable of doing," said McCullough.
Carmello Myles contributed eight points, seven rebounds, and two blocked shots, while Stephen Robinson (five rebounds, three blocked shots) and Gavin Jackson scored six points apiece. Nehemiah Johnson (five rebounds) and Kobe Edwards scored five points each for the Lakers.
GC actually shot a higher percentage from the field (59.2 percent) than the foul line (53.8 percent). The Lakers had nearly as many blocked shots (nine) as turnovers (10).
"We do a pretty good job of taking care of the ball and valuing possessions," said McCullough, whose team is averaging just 12 turnovers a game despite an up-tempo philosophy. "We always talk about how every minute, every possession is important. We did a pretty good job of maintaining that mindset of valuing each possession."
Upcoming: GC – which defeated Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, 66-63, on Tuesday night to move to 4-0 – now spends five straight games on the road. That road stretch includes Anne Arundel Community College at CCBC-Catonsville (11/20, 7 p.m.) before the Lakers head out for a two-game New York trip where they will play at Jamestown Community College (11/23) and SUNY-Niagara Sunday (11/24), with both games at 3 p.m.
