Darick Kerns
Title: Associate Head Coach

Darick Kerns is entering his second season at on the Men’s Basketball staff at Garrett College and has been elevated to Associate Head Coach for the 2024-2025 season.

Darick grew up in Lavale, MD and attended Allegany High School where he was a 3 year varsity basketball player, graduating in 2016.

After a stellar high school career, Darick attended St Mary’s College of MD playing for longtime Head Coach Chris Harney. Darick has always been a student of the game and has a very good basketball background. Aside from playing collegiate basketball he was always very interested in coaching after finishing his schooling.

After college, Darick joined the staff at Allegany High School and became the Head Freshman Boy’s Basketball Coach as well as assisting his high school coach Ted Erich at the varsity level. Coach Erich had a fantastic career at Allegany accumulating 400 plus wins and made multiple state tournament appearances (2 of which Darick was a part of as a player). Darick credits much of his knowledge in the game of basketball to Coach Erich as both a player and a coach on his staff.

In 2023, Darick joined the staff at Garrett College for his first season. In his first year of being a collegiate coach Darick was a huge asset and spent a lot of individual time getting to know and helping the team. In his first year having guys like an NJCAA All-American in Alex Vargo and an NJCAA Academic All American in Nate Washington made his transition to college smooth and he played a major role in the growth and development of those guys as well as all members of the team.

Going in to his second year he has high expectations for the team and players not only as athletes but as students. His top priority is to help maximize the opportunity these young men in the program earn Associate’s Degree’s at Garrett and receive scholarship opportunities at the 4-year level.
