McHenry, MD – Nevaeh Hamborsky wrote her name in the Garrett College women's soccer record book with four goals and nine total points in the Lady Lakers' 6-0 win over Howard Community College last Thursday night.
It took less than 48 hours for two of Hamborsky's teammates to join her.
Victoria Kovazh and Danielle Brobst matched Hamborsky's records Saturday afternoon with four goals and an assist apiece in GC's 13-0 rout of visiting Penn State New Kensington (0-6). Allison Harrold added two goals for GC while teammate Cheyenne Zack had a goal and two assists.
Natalie Warne and Sydney Weeks each added a goal and an assist as the Lady Lakers (5-7-2) won their fourth straight contest.
"It's crazy to think about how much progress we've made over the past three weeks," said GC head coach Brandon Jackson, whose squad has gone 5-3-1 since a 0-4-2 start. "Everyone has figured out their roles and we're clicking on all cylinders right now."
Hamborsky was serving a one-game suspension Saturday due to an accumulation of five yellow cards this season. The Lady Lakers, however, didn't miss a beat offensively, building a 3-0 lead just 9:41 into the game.
Warne scored off a Zack feed at the 3:57 mark and then set up Kovazh's first goal with a through ball that created a breakaway opportunity. Brobst then got her first goal after Ruby Molloy, working from the right side, slid a pass to Brobst on the left for an easy score that made it 3-0.
Brobst got her second goal just over two minutes later off a fine feed from Kovazh, who flew down the left wing and then sent a pass over to Brobst on the right side for a goal that made it 4-0.
"I think we communicated better up top than we were doing earlier in the season," said Brobst of GC's red-hot offense. "We're really coming together as a team."
Kovazh scored her second goal on a rebound shot after New Kensington goalie Air Wales (12 saves) stopped Kovazh's initial shot but couldn't control the ball, making it 5-0. Brobst then completed a hat trick off a feed from Jorjalynn Ward (two assists) and Kovazh got her third goal off a direct kick that gave GC a 7-0 halftime advantage.
"We're getting a lot better. It shows our motivation and effort," said Kovazh. "I'm just proud to be part of the attacking side."
Brobst and Kovazh each got their fourth goals early in the second half. Harrold scored both of her goals after halftime for the Lady Lakers.
Sara Tabuena and Kayla Moore (three saves) shared Garrett's third consecutive shutout. GC finished with a 25-3 lead in shots on goal and a 33-11 advantage in total shots.
"Our back line has been playing great," said Jackson.
