Hunter, Guy triumph at Thunderwolves Open

Sanborn, NY – Garrett College wrestlers Elijah Hunter and EJ Guy won their respective weight classes at the Thunderwolves Open on Saturday.

Hunter, the reigning 197-pound Gulf Atlantic District champion, won four matches as he improved to 12-5 this season.

"Elijah's wrestled well all semester," said GC head coach John Chambers. "He placed second at the James Madison Open and seventh at the very competitive Averett University Cougar Open. He also had a win at the Shorty Hitchcock Memorial Open."

Hunter opened the tournament with a 7-3 win over Lackawanna College's Simeon Huntz before pinning Matthew Raulerson, another Lackawanna grappler. He then defeated Simon Lingle of Niagara County Community College before receiving a medical-related forfeit.

Guy defeated Lackawanna's Braulluo Hurtado, 10-3, to win the 133-pound title.

GC had two wrestlers place in the 174-pound division as Ethan Doctor went 2-1 to finish second and Linden Amtoung split a pair of matches to take third place. Zach Schoch was fourth at 197 pounds while Connor Saladin went 2-2 at 285 pounds.

The Lakers are off until January 13 when they host Bergen County Community College in a 7 p.m. dual meet.
