GC Wrestling to compete at the NJCAA Gulf Atlantic District Championship

The Lakers will compete this weekend in the NJCAA Gulf Atlantic District Championship tournament at Lackawanna College, Scranton PA. Wrestlers who qualify for the national tournament will move on to compete at the NJCAA Wrestling Championship tournament in Council Bluffs, IA, March 4-5, 2022.

The Garrett College wrestling team last took to the mat on January 7, 2022 and competed in the NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals. The Lakers wrestled against Jamestown Community College, Joliet Community College, Niagara County Community College, and Rochester Community & Technical College. The Lakers were led by Elijah Hunter (197), Navid Ighani (165), Nathan Pelesky (133), and Trey Weinell (149) each finishing the day at 2-2. "More than just ourselves are dealing with injuries and health and safety protocols. Our program will never make excuses as to why we did not wrestle to the best of our abilities. We will get back to work and continue to get better each day. Louisville was a great experience! It gave our guys a sense of what it will take to compete March 4-5 at the NJCAA National Championships. That, in itself, was worth the trip." stated head wrestling coach John Chambers.
