Lakers continue to battle on the road

Millersville, PA. – In the third tournament of the 2021-22 Garrett College Wrestling season, the Lakers competed at The Shorty Hitchcock Memorial Open with over 20 NCAA Division I teams and multiple NCAA Division II teams, as the lone NJCAA program.

 

Freshman Nathan Pelesky (125 lbs) continued to lead the way as the only place winner for the Lakers, finishing in the top 8. Pelesky started his tournament with an 11-2 major decision victory over former Maryland State Champion and current Division I wrestler, Constantinos Gourgoulianis of Clarion. In round two, Pelesky wrestled 2020 Pennsylvania State Champion Ethan Bergnic of Army Prep, dropping a close 8-2 decision. Pelesky wasn't done wrestling for the day as he moved to the consolation bracket and secured back to back wins over opponents from Kutztown. Nate secured his first consi win 8-5 over Trent Thompson then was leading a match 6-5 over Jay Maldonado before Maldonado injury defaulted out of the competition. In his fifth match of the day Pelesky wrestled another former PIAA State Champion and Cadet World Champion, Joey Fischer of Clarion. Pelesky lost the bout 12-2 finishing his day in the top 8, proving again he can wrestle with anyone.

 

Brandan Myers (125 lbs) and Noah Korenoski (157 lbs) each recorded a win in their bracket before getting eliminated from the tournament.
