Pelesky battles through at the W&J Invitational

Washington, PA. – In the second tournament of the 2021-22 Garrett College Wrestling season, the Lakers competed in 9 of 10 weight classes, placing two in the top eight.

 

Freshman Nathan Pelesky finished 4th in the respective 125 lb class defeating opponents from NCAA DII and DIII teams. Pelesky started his morning with a first round 14-5 major decision over David Rubin from Washington and Lee. Pelesky then battled for 7 minutes earning an 8-4 upset victory over the #1 seed from Lake Erie College, Jacob Johnson. Nate continued his impressive run with a 8-7 victory in the quarter finals over Thiel College's Evan Whiteside before falling to Jordan Rodriquez of Lake Erie College 6-2 in the semi finals. Nate wrestled Washington and Jefferson Freshman Hunter Swedish in the third place match, dropping a 12-4 bout.

 

Navid Ighani compiled a 4-2 record, positioning himself in the top 8 of the bracket while reaching his six match limit. Navid started his morning with a 13-4 major decision over Raheem Clemons of Washington and Jefferson University. Ighani lost his second match to Jaret Lowry of Ohio Wesleyan. Navid bounced back in his first consolation match with a dominant 20-5 technical fall. Ighani then earned two decisions over Hunter Charles of Lycoming and Elijah Hernandez of University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. In the consi semi's Ighani was defeated 8-4 reaching his six match limit for the day.

The Lakers compete again next weekend at their biggest test to date, The Shorty Hitchcock Memorial Tournament at Millersville University.
