Largo, MD – Amari Jones scored half of her 24 points in the first 13 minutes Saturday afternoon as host Prince George's Community College rolled to a 72-59 women's basketball win over Garrett College.

"They shot lights-out in the first half," said GC head coach JT Lewis. "We couldn't get out to their shooters fast enough. Once we went to man-to-man defense we were able to slow them down a little bit."

The loss left the Lady Lakers – who notched a 67-65 victory at Montgomery College last Wednesday – with a split of their two conference road games last week.

GC fell to 6-4, 1-1 in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference, with the loss to PG. The Lady Lakers had entered that game winners of six of their previous seven contests.

PG was hitting on all cylinders – both offensively and defensively – in the first half. The Owls held Garrett to two first-quarter field goals while building a 22-6 lead that mushroomed into a 46-17 halftime advantage.

Gabriella Valentinetti scored a game-high 27 points for the Lady Lakers and Gianna Michaux added 10, but the rest of the team combined for just 22 points on 9-of-33 (27 percent) shooting from the field.

Garrett 67, Montgomery 65

ROCKVILLE – Renee Timbers scored a team-high 14 points last Wednesday to lead a balanced Lady Laker offensive attack.

Gabriella Valentinetti (12 points, six rebounds, four assists), Aleeya Silver (11 points, three steals), and Hasana Akinloye (10 points) also reached double figures for Garrett.

MC's Talia Kouncar scored a game-high 15 points to pace the Raptors, who shot out to a 22-15 lead after one quarter.

"We started out slow again," said Garrett head coach JT Lewis. "We showed a lot of heart in fighting back.

"It was a good defensive game for us," added Lewis. "We played three different defenses and played them all well."
