Perez de Castro leads GC over CCAC

Pittsburgh, PA – Manuela Perez de Castro scored a game-high 17 points last Tuesday night as six Lady Lakers reached double figures in Garrett College's 92-28 romp over host Community College of Allegheny County.

GC has scored more than 90 points in each of its last two games, winning each contest by at least 49 points. The Lady Lakers built a 19-7 lead after one quarter and had a 36-13 cushion at the half.

"The girls are starting to play better together," said GC head coach JT Lewis. "They're  sharing the ball a lot more, talking on defense and overall just trusting each other."

Garrett had impressive offensive balance as Aleeya Silver (16 points, nine rebounds, nine assists), Janiya Burton (15 points, seven rebounds), Hasana Akinloye (13 points, six steals), Gabriella Valentinetti (12 points, eight rebounds, four steals), and Renee Timbers (11 points, six rebounds, three steals) reached double figures.

"Aleeya was an assist and a rebound away from a triple double," Lewis noted. "For us to compete this year, she will have to do a little bit of everything like she did Tuesday ."

De'Asia Boyd scored a team-high 12 points for CCAC.

"This team has done a good job of improving each game and working on our weak areas," said Lewis.

The Lady Lakers play at Potomac State College of West Virginia University – which handed GC one of its four losses last season – Wednesday night, and then host Northern Virginia Community College Thursday night. Both games start at 5 p.m.

"We have a big game Wednesday night," noted Lewis, whose squad took two-of-three from Potomac State last year, including a regional tournament victory. "That should give us a better feel of where we stand in the region."
