Laker softball working to rebuild program in the 2023 season

The Lady Lakers softball program is back up and running after a long hiatus following the pandemic shutdown. The softball team played one game in 2020, before the spring seasons were cancelled and student-athletes were sent home for the rest of the spring semester.

Following the pandemic, Garrett attempted to recruit female student-athletes, but the shut down made it hard to find females returning to in person learning. Also, many high school teams didn't have their spring season, making it hard to connect with those student-athletes.

Head Coach Elizabeth Show and Assistant Coach Brittany Jackson decided to take on their temporary roles to ensure a season for Laker Softball. "We wanted to make sure that our players who will be moving on, had a chance to play at least one year while at Garrett. We are grateful for the student-athletes who have stepped up and allowed this season take place." said Head Coach, Elizabeth Show.

It was very important to have a softball season this year. We needed to lay the ground work to ensure the success of this program. We also had a great group of student-athletes ready to help kick start this program that it just made sense to have a season," according to Assistant Coach, Brittany Jackson.

A nationwide search is underway for a Head Softball Coach. The Lakers hope that this full- time position along with the addition of a brand, new turf field complex will help in the rebuilding of this program. The new turf complex will be home to Laker baseball, softball, and women's soccer.
