Lakers Compete at Dickinson College Long/Short Meet

The Lakers cross country team competed in the Dickinson College Long/Short meet held at Big Spring High School, Newville, PA. Having the choice to compete at the 8K/6K women distance or the 4K distance, Jack Bradley (Friendsville, MD Northern Garrett) and Reillee Beeman (Frostburg, MD Mountain Ridge) chose to race the 4k distance. Bradley covered the distance in a time of 17:48 and Beeman in 23:55. Messiah College men won the long race, Shippensburg University the short race and Dickinson College the overall championship. Shippensburg's women won the short race but Dickinson won both the long and overall titles.

Coach Dale Luy felt overall this was a good experience for the team. "We have first year runners who had their eyes opened to what it is like to race against nationally ranked NCAA DII, DIII, and NJCAA teams. In addition, the number of runners in the race is something they have really not experienced. The course has been used for national championship races. Overall, a great learning experience and that is what we were looking for."

Next weekend the team competes at Mount Aloysius College for the Mountie Invitational. The women race at 9 a.m. and the men follow at 9:45 a.m.
