GC Cross Country take on the Penn Highlands Black Bear Invitational

The Garrett College cross country team competed on Saturday, October 3 at the Penn Highlands Black Bear Invitational. The runners raced on the Path of the Flood trail in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. For the men's 8K race that meant running through what is billed as the oldest railroad tunnel in the United States.

Esdras Castillo, racing the first 8K of his running career finished in eighth place (seventh among collegiate runners) with a time of 37:14.3. Fellow first year student, Jeff Geddie, returning from injury race a 5k distance in the time of 33:39. For Geddie this was a 3.5 minute improvement from his first race of the year.

Jacob Havins of Carroll CC won the 8k race in a time of 30:01.8

Westmoreland County CC women's team edged Lorain CC of Ohio 27-28 in the team scoring. Brooke Bertovich of Westmoreland won the 5k race in 21:49.4.

The Lakers head to Carroll CC on Saturday, October 10 for their next race. The first race starts at noon.
