Garrett College Host Laker Strong Invitational

The Garrett College cross country teams hosted the Laker Strong Invitational on Saturday, September 19. The meet, which was located at Northern Garrett High School, is believed to be the first home invitational in the brief history of the program. Among the competing schools was Westmoreland County CC, fifth a year ago at the NJCAA Women's DIII national meet and Hagerstown Community College a Men's DI national meet participant.

 

The men raced over a 6000 meter course with Trentin Overcash winning the race and leading his Hagerstown team to a first place finish. Overcash cruised the course in a time of 20:20.5. Hagerstown beat out Harford in the team scoring 17 to 50. Esdras Castillo, running his first race ever, was the first Garrett finisher in a time of 29:31.7. He was followed by fellow first year runner, Jeff Geddie who completed the course in 45:56.7.

 

The women's race was dominated by Westmoreland. Brooke Bertovich lead the Wolfpack with a first place finish covering the 5000 meter course in a time of 23:28.4. The Lakers Jessica Bow, running her first race of the year completed the course in a time of 27:12.2.

 

The Lakers next compete on Saturday, October 3 at Johnstown, Pennsylvania in a meet hoste by Penn Highlands Community College.
