First Race of the Season for the Lakers

First Race of the Season for the Lakers

The relaunch of Garrett College's cross country program in 2019 can probably be described as highly successful. The men's team finished 22nd at the NJCAA Division III National championships and the women experienced individual success throughout the year, but that was last year. The daunting task of replacing last year's entire men's roster and most of the women's roster, began Friday evening at the Westmoreland County CC Wolfpack Invitational. Three days into the new academic year, two runners represented the Lakers at the meet that featured both NJCAA and NAIA schools.

First year Ella Warnick placed seventh in the NJCAA scoring for the Lakers with a time of 25:18.9 over the 5K course. Westmoreland won the NJCAA team title and Point Park the NAIA title. On the men's side, First year Jeff Geddie completed the race in a time of 37:00.1. Hagerstown won the NJCAA team race and Point Park the NAIA honors.

The Lakers will host their Laker Strong Invitational Saturday, September 19th at Northern Garrett High School. The men's 6K race begins at noon followed by the women's 5K at 1 p.m.
