Harford follows similar script in DH sweep

McHenry, MD – Garrett College fought back in both ends of Sunday's baseball doubleheader against visiting Harford Community College, but the Fighting Owls responded with big innings each time to record a 12-6 and 16-6 sweep.

GC rallied from a 6-0 deficit in the opener, pulling within 6-5 with a five-run third inning that included RBI hits by Christian Harrington (double), Brandyn Gonzalez, and Tristan Kenzevich. Harford, however, got one run back in the top of the fourth and broke the game open with a four-run fifth.

The Fighting Owls (26-6) used the same playbook in the nightcap, letting a 7-0 lead dwindle to 7-6 before scoring a combined nine runs in the fifth and sixth innings to complete the sweep. Easton Rhoten (2-for-4, three RBI) had a two-run double in GC's four-run second, and drove in the third-inning run that pulled the Lakers within 7-6.

Harford totaled 19 hits and took advantage of 15 walks to saddle the Lakers with a three-game losing streak.

"We gave Harford too many free bases in both games," said GC head coach Eric Hallenbeck. "You give any team 24 walks/hit-by-pitch combined in a doubleheader, you aren't going to win many games."

GC (13-5) defeated Anne Arundel Community College, 17-1, in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader before the Riverhawks bounced back for a 9-0 win in the nightcap.

Keldrin Rodriguez and Danny Scullion each homered, drove in three runs, and collected two hits for Harford in Sunday's opener. Fighting Owls leadoff hitter Ryan Albin doubled and tripled while going 3-for-5 with a run and two RBI in the nightcap.

Myrtle Beach, SC – Ty Giblin's two-out, 0-2 RBI single broke a 2-2 tie last Wednesday and sparked a three-run sixth inning as the Lakers finished out their spring break trip with a win over The Apprentice School.
