Lakers get first win in home opener

Collin Reed had two hits and drove in three runs as he led a 14-hit attack for the Lakers as they defeated West Virginia Wesleyan JV's 11-0 at the Diamond at the Lake, Thursday afternoon. Zachary Hallenbeck led the scoring off in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run to left center field giving the Lakers a 1-0 lead. It stayed that way until the bottom of the fourth when Erick Batista bunted and Reed scored all the way from second base. Easton Rhoten singled to drive in Batista for a 3-0 lead. Garrett would score four more in the fifth and two more in the sixth and eighth inning. Hallenbeck, Rhoten, Batista and Chance Ritchey all had two hits. Giancarlo Bernardo and Ty Giblin each had an RBI double.

Garrett's pitching was equally impressive as the staff gave up no runs, on three hits while walking only one batter. Coleman Bullard pitched five innings for the win and combined with Collin Cottrell, Dariel Walker, and Colby Schmitz to strike out a total of 10 Bobcats.

The Lakers will travel south on Saturday for their annual Myrtle Beach trip. They open up Sunday March 10th against Middlesex Community College (NJ). First pitch is 6:30pm.
