Lakers finish strong at Ripken Experience

Myrtle Beach, SC – Garrett College won its final three baseball games at the Ripken Experience, including notching Eric Hallenbeck's 400th career coaching victory.

 

The Lakers edged County College of Morris, 4-3, last Friday to notch Hallenbeck's 400th win at Garrett College. GC then swept a Saturday doubleheader from Ocean County College, 12-2 and 10-3.

 

Giancarlo Bernardo went 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in a run to spark the Lakers in the Morris win.

 

Chance Moore (five RBI) homered twice and Chance Ritchey (run, RBI) went 3-for-4 in the Ocean County opener. Darrick Broadwater (two runs), Luis Rodriguez (three runs, two RBI), Nathaniel Junkins (RBI), and Bernardo (run, RBI) each added two hits.

 

Broadwater (three runs, three RBI) and Joe DeSiena (run, RBI) each had three hits in the Ocean County nightcap.

 

Rodriguez won twice, picking up the Morris victory in relief and earning the win in the Ocean County nightcap. Rodriguez allowed five hits and two walks in four innings in his Ocean County start.

 

Collin Cottrell spaced seven hits and a walk in a five-inning complete game to earn the win in the Ocean County opener.

 

Scoutz USA snapped the Lakers' win streak on Sunday, notching a wild, 12-11 win after GC had completed its Ripken Experience schedule. GC (5-10) scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings, but Scoutz USA scored the winning run in the top of the eighth.

 

Rodriguez, Ritchey, and Bernardo (3-for-3) each drove in two runs in the Scoutz USA game. Sienna and Moore each had two hits.
