On February 3, 1987, President Ronald Reagan signed Proclamation 5606 declaring February 4, 1987, as National Women in Sports Day. NGWSD was originally initiated in 1987 as a day to remember Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman for her achievements and work for equality. National Girls and Women in Sports Day, abbreviated as N.G.W.S.D. , is being observed Today on February 2^nd  and marks and the 36^th annual celebration and the kick of the 50^th Anniversary of Title IX.
