McHenry, MD – Breaking 100 points in a men's basketball game used to be considered an uncommon achievement. This season, it's become Garrett College's homecourt norm.

GC broke the century mark once again last Wednesday night, shooting 58 percent and rolling over Anne Arundel Community College. The Lakers – averaging 101 points per game at the CARC Arena – have scored at least 100 points in three of their five home games.

The Lakers improved to 9-3 with their fifth straight win. They also moved to 5-0 at home.

Rob Smith (four rebounds, four assists) scored a game-high 19 points as five Lakers reached double figures and all 13 players on the GC roster scored. Reserves Kamren Heathington (14 points, five rebounds, two steals), Nathaniel Washington (11 points, four assists) and Munchy Thompson (10 points) all scored in double digits as the GC bench contributed 64 points.

The Lakers led by as many as 25 points on the way to a 50-29 halftime advantage. Smith had seven points as part of a 14-4 opening run, including a 3-pointer to cap the spurt. GC used an 11-0 spurt, including five points from Thompson, to open up a 29-8 lead after less than nine minutes.

AJ Crosby (10 points, seven rebounds) was the fifth Laker in double figures. Jeremiah Stroman scored 11 points and Truth Norton added 10 to lead AACC.

McHenry, MD – Garrett College might have been tempted to overlook the Riverhawks. After all, Anne Arundel Community College limped into CARC Arena last Wednesday night with a 2-8 record that included a 66-point loss to Montgomery College.

That record, however, also included a stunning, 72-67 victory over a Potomac State College squad that had beaten GC in overtime. And that ended any chance that the Lady Lakers might overlook AACC.

Josie Canales had game-highs in points (23), rebounds (11) and blocked shots (four) as Garrett College routed the Riverhawks. Aliyah Tucker added 14 points with five rebounds, and Josias Mickens contributed 13 points and game-highs in assists (eight) and steals (four).

"This region is so competitive that anyone can beat anyone else on a given night," said GC head coach JT Lewis, whose squad improved to 5-1. "We knew they had beaten Potomac State and we would need to be ready to play."

The Lady Lakers started the game with a 7-2 spurt that Canales began with a layup off the opening tip and finished with an inside basket off an offensive rebound. Canales added a pair of 3-pointers later in the period, finishing with 14 points as Garrett rolled to a 21-12 lead after one quarter.

GC broke the game open in the second quarter. The Lady Lakers unleashed a 15-0 run that started with seven points from Tucker and ended with a 3-pointer from Vanessa Cooper (eight points, five rebounds) as the lead ballooned to 42-16.

Harmoni Swain and Gabriella Valentinetti each chipped in six points and five rebounds. Aleeya Silver finished with six points and three assists for the Lady Lakers.

Leila Townsend (six rebounds, team-high three assists) and Isabella Papaleonti (team-high eight rebounds) each scored 13 points for the Riverhawks.
